Sometimes long maturations without any rush, with all the simple charm of a great spirit and the slow influence of a refill cask, are the best. This delicate Speysider had all the time to smooth out its youth, and the result is an ethereal malt: honeyed, mineral, waxy and lightly flowery. The style is gentle and refined, and maturity expresses itself not in terms of wood extraction, but of ripe tropical fruits (bananas, passion fruit, mango), vanilla, maple, whispered richness and layer upon layer of complexity. Green tea infusion and chamomile flowers are particularly evident both at nose and palate, and only the slightly peppery whiff of tannins calls for attention at the end in an otherwise velvety and fragrant whisky.
