DESCRIPTION
16 Year Old Balvenie Single Malt Scotch whisky from their Triple Cask range, which was launched for travel retail. The Triple Cask range is matured in first-fill American oak barrels, traditional refill casks and first-fill Oloroso Sherry butts. The 16 year old shows off a lot more vanilla and fruit than the 12 year old Triple Cask - the extra years in the casks also bring out plenty more fragrant, oak-spices.
TASTING NOTESÂ
Nose: The nose starts off with delicate notes of honey, vanilla, and toffee. Very treacly with pleasant flavors of dark fruit, raspberry in particular, mixed with gentle citric aroma and a whiff of pepper and lingering oak in the back. Rich and complex.
Taste: Smooth and soft with a rich vanilla sweetness. Slightly sherry flavours and fruity notes of peaches and plums arrive, complemented by lingering toffee and a warm load of delicate spices - white pepper, caramelised ginger, nutmeg, oak and a fine whiff of cinnamon. Vibrant and voluptuous.
Finish: The finish is long, warm and spicy with red berries, honey, toffee and a whiff of smoke on the tail.
With water: Fresh on the nose with more yellow fruitâs coming through, complemented by soft and lingering vanilla and delicate honey. Water tames a bit of the spiciness bringing more vanilla sweetness and toffee to the fore. The finish is long, sweet and creamy with tender spiciness.
