The existence of the Scottish distillery Ladyburn was the shortest in history. It is one of the rarest malt whiskeys to buy on the market. If you can find it!
Yet in its time, Ladyburn was the most advanced in the world because it was a fully automated distillery. As often, the owner, William Grant & Sons, had sought the best balance between tradition and modernity. It was perfectly summarised by the deputy director of the distillery: "We predict that some measures implemented in the past will always be the best and we will continue to use them. Our automations are only there to control the production process, not direct."
Nose
A rich and deep aroma with hints of linseed, liquorice and leather. Subtle vanilla oak notes overlay the malty character.
Palate
Rich and mouth coating with a silky texture. The flavour builds over time revealing stewed fruits, a green leafiness and antique leather.
Overall
The finish is long lasting and slightly dry.
