Islay Dram Flight

DESCRIPTION

The legendary Islay, Is the southernmost island of the Inner Hebrides of Scotland. Known as "The Queen of the Hebrides

Islay is associated with peaty single malt whiskies. This flight has been carefully selected to include powerhouse distilleries, that have become world famous, to give you some of the most exceptional peaty single malt whiskies.

This Flight includes:

Lagavulin 8 Years Old 200th Anniversary

Released to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the founding of Lagavulin distillery by John Johnston in 1816, this eight-year-old is big and smoky, with sweet spice that becomes apparent with a drop of water. Inspired by the visit of Alfred Barnard to the distillery in the 1880s when he tried an 'exceptionally fine' eight-year-old from the distillery, this is a fitting tribute for the milestone.

Caol Ila 12 Years Old

Of medium weight, but still packing plenty of potent phenols, this is a refined, powerful dram with a compensating oiliness. A balanced, peaty beauty..

Laphroaig 15 Years Old 200th Anniversary

Laphroaig 15 year old was first created 30 years ago. Barrels were individually selected for their particularly mellow rounded flavour, then batch bottled at the higher export strength of 43% ABV. The resulting flavour soon became a firm favourite winning many awards.

Bowmore 15 Years Old Darkest

Matured in an inspired combination of both bourbon and sherry casks, it's the final three years spent in Oloroso sherry casks that gives Bowmore 15 Year Old 'Darkest', one of the most beautifully balanced Bowmores, the rich, deep colour reflected in its name, and its warming finish.

TASTING NOTES

Lagavulin 8

  • Nose: Salted popcorn, honey-roasted nuts, tarry ropes and light hints of freshly-chopped cedar. A touch of burnt sugar sweetness lingers.
  • Palate: Smokey peat appears first on the palate, followed by coriander seed, barley sugar, cumin powder, smoked kipper and marzipan.
  • Finish: Layers of apple crumble, toasted almond and ash. Another kick of cooking spices right at the end.

Caol Ila 15

  • Nose: Pale straw
  • Palate: Subdued, citric fruitiness; a whiff of bath oil and dentist's mouthwash. A fresh and appetising nose, with little or no trace of smoke
  • Finish: Sweet smokiness in the lingering, slightly sour finish

Laphroaig 15

  • Nose:Initial scents of grapefruit and fresh mint. A touch of water releases salted caramel, with signature Islay peat smoke underlying sweet orchard fruit aromas.
  • Palate: Pink peppercorns, light peat smoke with a soft dryness, before a finish of tobacco and faint sea salt.
  • Finish: Mellow with a smoky aftertaste

Bowmore 15

  • Nose: Delicious dark chocolate, sun-dried fruits and a tell-tale wisp of Islay smoke.
  • Palate: Wonderful cedar wood and rich treacle toffee.
  • Finish: The robust and complex finish with a hint of sherry tannin.
