Collection: Hakushu Single Malt

Hakushu Distillery

Hakushu Single Malt Whisky is a renowned Japanese whisky produced by Suntory at their "forest distillery" located in the Japanese Alps. Established in 1973, this distillery, set at a high altitude (700 meters), produces a unique, light, and fresh style of whisky characterized by herbal and delicate smoky notes. Known for its "green and crisp" profile, Hakushu is often praised for notes of green apple, mint, and cucumber, reflecting the pristine, verdant mountain surroundings where it matures.
Key Features & Tasting Profile:
  • Terroir & Source: Distilled from mineral-rich water filtered through granite layers of the southern Alps.
  • Flavor Profile: Fresh, herbal, and gently smoky. Often features citrus, pear, and melon notes, balanced by a light, refreshing aroma.
  • Key Expressions: While the 12-year-old is a signature, well-aged release, the distillery also offers a popular non-age statement Distiller's Reserve, as well as rare 18 and 25-year-old versions.
  • Usage: Its crisp nature makes it excellent for drinking neat or in a Japanese highball, offering a sophisticated, clean taste.
Hakushu is recognized as a staple of modern Japanese whisky, offering a "verdant" alternative to the heavier, more fruit-forward Yamazaki single malt.
