Laphroaig 2001 16 Years Old Hunter Laing - Old Malt Cask

Laphroaig

Laphroaig 2001 16 Years Old Hunter Laing / Old Malt Cask. A sherry-matured smoke bomb from Laphroaig, distilled in February 2001 and bottled in April 2017 by Hunter Laing for the Old Malt Cask series. It was a refill butt, which has let the Laphroaig character shine through, combining classically fruity and coastal notes with rich sherry-cask fruit and spice.

Tasting Note

Nose: Heavy medicinal peat influence, with underlying sweetness of honey'd barley. But mostly peat. Let's be certain about that.

Palate: Bold and meaty - streaky bacon, black liquorice and yet more peat smoke.

Finish: A final flourish of blackcurrant sweeties and smoked barley.
